“The Hobbit” Review

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is first part of a trilogy, and a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I have been waiting for this movie for almost four years after they announced that they were going to make one, and since the LOTR trilogy was my favorite movie series, I couldn’t wait for this movie.

After it was released and I watched it, I was disappointed. The movie was really good, not Lord of the Rings good, but it was a fantastic movie nonetheless. Anyways, I don’t want to spoil the movie for anybody, but the ending is a major cliffhanger. I didn’t want the movie to end like this; I didn’t even know it was a three part movie until after I watched it.

Another downside to this movie was that it was cheesier than the LOTR movies, there were a lot more graphics in this movie, while in LOTR, most of it was people in makeup or costumes.

In the book, the introduction was about the same, but what upset me about the movie (I’m a huge lore fan, so I don’t like it when things don’t go by the original lore) they mentioned golf, which isn’t in the lore of the story, so i found that a little cheesy.

BUT, the song “Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold” is awesome to listen to–it just brings chills down your spine. Also the movie had a distinct lack of soundtrack, they used some of the soundtrack from the original LOTR movies, but other than that, it was just a different cover-up of the “Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold” music with different instruments.

Other than these, I really liked the movie. I can’t for the second and third part. If you haven’t seen the LOTR trilogy, watch it before you see The Hobbit. If you’re going to watch the LOTR, watch the extended edition, its the only way to go.
