Say goodbye to posters and hello to brand new televisions throughout the school.
Administrators don’t want to see the school’s new paint job marred by posters, so they’ve banned them throughout most of the building. Posters that once covered the hallways are now limited to the gym. In their place, six televisions will be available for showing messages.
“It is because [of] the new paint job,” assistant principal Mike Norris said. “We want to let the paint settle in.”
For some student organizations, this rule change creates problems. For example, candidates running for student council in prior years promoted themselves with posters hung on the walls.
“We are hoping the administration will be a little more lenient when it comes time to campaign again,” senior Kelly Song said.
This not only affects future StuCo members but many other groups as well. The spirit squad was previously in charge of creating posters to be hung around the school.
“I feel it does affect the squad, it makes it more difficult to spread school spirit throughout the whole school,” senior cheerleader London Koehn said. “I don’t find it to be a positive change, but I understand why they are enforcing this rule.”
Overall, students seem understanding, and there’s still options for reaching students with the new televisions. One of the televisions to be placed in the annex was purchased by the class of 2013.
Song, senior Lily Abromeit and junior Anna Meissbach will be in charge of running the programs for the TVs, which will act as a channel between the information that people would like to display (traditionally in the form of signage).
