Monday, Oct. 10

JV Football competes against Gardner Edgerton at 6 p.m. at Gardner Edgerton High School.

Boys Soccer C-Team competes against Olathe Northwest at 5:30 p.m. at Olathe Northwest.

Fellowship of Christian Students meets 3:15-4 p.m. in Room 162. For students interested in building caring friendships, strengthening their faith and praying for our school. See Ms. Reimers if you have questions.

Wrestling preseason workouts will take place 3:30-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Meet in the West Gym Lobby. Preseason workouts continue through Oct. 28.

Tuesday, Oct. 11

Girls Varsity Golf competes in Regionals at Eagle Bend starting at 9 a.m.

Chesty Academy After School Tutoring takes place 3:15-5 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in Ms. Henry’s room (Room 212).

Unified Bowling competes at 3:30 p.m. at Royal Crest Lanes against multiple schools.

Wrestling has a meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the Maker Space.

Track and field pre-season injury prevention workouts will be 3:30-4:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for students not participating in a fall or winter sport. Workouts continue on this schedule up to Winter Break.

Varsity Volleyball competes against Hayden Washburn Rural and more at 5 p.m. at Manhattan High School.

Boys Varsity Soccer competes against Olathe Northwest at 7 p.m. at the College Boulevard Activity Center (CBAC).

Wednesday, Oct. 12

JV Gymnastics competes at 5:30 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Northwest against Emporia, Free State, Newton, Olathe East, Olathe North, Olathe Northwest, Olathe South, Olathe West, Shawnee Mission East, Shawnee Mission North, Shawnee Mission South and Shawnee Mission West.

Girls Basketball will have a mandatory player meeting at 1:35 p.m. in Coach Dickson’s room, Room 302.

Due date for the Black Student Union’s PowderPuff Flag Football Game. Form and payment must be turned in by 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. Turn in information to Mrs. Trowbridge’s Room (Room 281) or sign up at lunch.

Girls Basketball will have a mandatory player and parent meeting at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Boys C-Team Soccer competes against Free State at 6:30 p.m. at home.

LHS Concerto Concert starts at 7 p.m. in the LHS Auditorium.

Unity Step Team practices at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The group is taking on new members. To join, sign up in Room 281.

Thursday, Oct. 13

End of first quarter.

Environmental Club meets 3:15-5:15 p.m. in room 197 for a campus trash clean-up.

Philosophy Club meeting at 3:15-4 p.m. in Room 211.

LHS Orchestra Concert at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium.

Boys Varsity Soccer competes against Free State at 7 p.m. at the LHS soccer stadium. Room 308 will live stream the game.

Magic Club meets Thursday after school, 3:10-4 p.m. in Room 346. In Magic Club, members play Magic the Gathering as well as other trading card games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon.

Friendship Bracelet Club meets 3:15-4 p.m. in the library.

Friday, Oct. 14

No School

Varsity Football plays against Free State at 7 p.m. at the LHS football stadium.

Saturday, Oct. 15

Cross Country Varsity competes at 9 a.m. at Rim Rock Farm.

Volleyball Varsity competes at Emporia High School at 9 a.m. against Maize South, Seaman, Shawnee Mission North, Bishop Carroll, Maize, Washburn Rural, Sumner Academy and Bonner Springs. 

The Black Student Union hosts a PowderPuff Flag Football Game for all female, female identifying/presenting and non-binary students. Form and payment must be turned in by 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. Turn in information to Mrs. Trowbridge’s Room (Room 281) or sign up at lunch.

Information you need to know

Hispanic Heritage Month began on Sept. 15 and extends to Oct. 15. It marks the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Pick up badges in Students Services for students in ninth grade and other students new to LHS.

Coming up

Nov. 7 is the forms deadline for submitting winter sports forms online. All required forms are submitted at www.registermyathlete.com or RMA. Forms must be submitted and approved on RMA to participate in tryouts or practices. Winter sports are basketball, bowling, boys swim/dive and wrestling.

Unity Step Team invites you to join in and dance with the group at its Line Dance Fest Fundraiser at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the main gym. Entry fee is $5 to join in and tennis shoes are required.

Announcements

Latin American Student Organization — LASO students attended an assembly at Quail Run Elementary as part of their Hispanic Heritage Month activities. LASO students spoke about their achievements and participation in a variety of activities at LHS.

Latin American Studies Class — Rosemary Homeyer’s Latin American Studies class went on a field trip to the Union Station to see the Mayan exhibit as part of their curriculum and a way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
