The varsity boys basketball team hosted Olathe East Jan. 17th. The mighty Lions put up a fight all 4 quarters leading the Hawks through halftime.  Slowly after halftime ended, so did the Lions lead. Olathe East came out leading in the 3rd quarter.

As the 4th quarter approached, the excitement was kicked up a notch within the student section.

“When they [LHS] hit the three to tie the game and send it to overtime, that really changed the momentum,” Senior Drew Green said. “We knew going into overtime we needed to do something to get our momentum back on our side, therefore everyone went nuts.”

As overtime went under way, everyone in the gym was on their feet. Cheerleaders were cheering, parents and the student section were screaming, and the Lions were slowly seeing the clock run down with the Hawks in the lead.

As the final seconds neared and the final buzzer went off our mighty Lions fell to Olathe East 57-63. This game marked the varsity team’s second loss of the year, with a record of 7-2.

When asked how he felt his team played Junior Anthony Bonner responded, “I thought we fought hard but made too many mental mistakes.”

LHS takes on multiple teams on January 23rd-25th at the Topeka Invitational.
