On Nov. 20, for the third time in three years, the LHS girls soccer team was introduced to a new coach.
Almost 50 girls showed up to the meeting.
Justin Young, the new head coach, hopes to “find a home” at LHS, he said. Young has previous experience coaching soccer — his boys team at Pembroke Hill, where he served as assistant coach, made it to the state finals. Young played soccer for Shawnee Mission East. He has played nearly every position except goalkeeper throughout his career. Young graduated from UMKC. He currently works at Olathe South as a paraprofessional.
New assistant coach, Jacob Brewer, graduated from LHS in 2005. Brewer played four years of varsity soccer at LHS. Nicole Bishop is returning for a third year as an assistant and and goalie coach.
Young hopes to have as many girls to try out as possible this spring and eventually hopes to have a freshmen, sophomore, junior varsity and varsity team.
When asked how long he planned to be staying, Young expressed that he doesn’t plan on leaving soon, and wants to build the program over time.
