Q&A: Halloween
October 24, 2016
Students and staff discuss their favorite scary movies and candy just in time for Halloween.
Ana Lopez, sophomore
Do you have a favorite horror movie, and what about it makes it your favorite?
“I don’t necessarily have a favorite horror movie because I love a lot of horror movies, and I’ve grown up watching them, but one of the ones that always like stayed with me was The Conjuring movies and Annabelle. But ones by Tim Burton, which are not necessarily horror movies, were always some of my favorites. They’re spooky.”
How scary would you say some of your favorites are?
“If there’s jump scares I jump a lot, but on a spooky scale, if it’s not spooky enough then no. With like The Conjuring and definitely Lights Out, that one scared me to no end.”
For Lights Out what would you say was the scariest part?
“There’s this part where she’s sleeping and there’s this tattoo parlor outside her house and the light keeps flashing on and off. And if you don’t know, the antagonist in the movie she’s only there when it’s dark. It kept going light in her room and then dark in her room, and she woke up to the sound of nails scratching right outside her door and whenever the lights are off, you saw the antagonist scratching at the ground. That was very scary and it attacked her, but the lights turned on right afterwards and he was gone.”
What would you say your favorite character was in Lights Out?
“Probably, the antagonist. She was really scary, but she was pretty cool. She had a cool back story because she was killed and she was like a “ghost,” but we don’t really know what she was.”
Do you think you would have stayed alive if you were in that movie?
“Oh god no. People ask me, would you stay alive in a zombie apocalypse? And I’m like nope, probably would be one of the first ones dead. I’d probably last till maybe, the middle of the movie, and then I’d die.”
Sydney Haralson, senior
Do you have a favorite horror movie, and what about it makes it your favorite?
“My favorite horror movie would probably be Sinister. Probably because the first time I watched it I never knew what to expect, and I also like the fact it’s like history replaying itself. In the movie there’s these videos of what happens to certain people and then as more people come into the movie the same instances are happening to them.”
How scary would you say it is?
“Now that I’ve seen it a lot it’s probably not that scary because I know what’s happening but my first time watching it I would definitely give it an 8/10.”
What’s the scariest part about it?
“There’s this part where they’re in a tree, and the tree breaks and then they think it’s actually happening but it’s not actually happening and I don’t know, it just got me.”
What’s your favorite character and why?
“Probably the little boy because nobody actually thinks that he’s telling the truth. But he actually is seeing everything that he says.”
Do you think you would have stayed alive if you were in the movie?
“Definitely, I’ve watched enough scary movies to know how to get my way out of them.”
What would you have done differently?
“Well first of all, everyone always tries to fix the problem and go after the bad person. But I would’ve just gotten out of there and went with myself.”
Delaney Crane, senior
Do you have a favorite Halloween horror movie, and what about it makes it your favorite?
“The Lost Boys, because awful horror is the best horror.”
How scary would you say it is?
“Probably a 2.0 but that’s because I’m a cry baby, so you know.”
What’s the scariest part?
“The part where they turn into a vampire, there’s like flames that go whoosh. It’s pretty spooky.”
Do you think you would have stayed alive if you were in the movie, and if so what would you have done differently?
“No, I don’t think I would have. I would’ve tripped over my own heels and probably died. But that’s okay I would’ve done that in any movie regardless of whether or not it was a horror movie.”
Do you have a favorite character?
“Yeah. This dude’s little brother, whose name I can’t remember. I haven’t seen it in so long but definitely the dude’s little brother. He just wants to not be a vampire, but he’s a vampire anyway.”
Mrs. Hoffman, student teacher
Do you have a favorite horror movie and what about it makes it your favorite?
“I really like the horror movies with Michael Myers and kind of the old campy ones where’s there’s a lot of thriller and suspense. It’s not really a horror movie but we just watched stranger things to start of Halloween. I like things with a lot of jump scares as well. One that freaks me out is The Grudge. I would put The Grudge as my all the time favorite horror movie.”
How scary would you say The Grudge is?
“I would say suspense factor I would give it an 8. There’s scarier out there, but definitely a solid 8.”
What would you say the scariest part is?
“There’s a part where they’re going into the attic and they look and they just the half bottom of the jaw there. That’s by far the scariest part.”
What’s your favorite character?
“I would say my favorite character is just The Grudge itself. It’s a character that you don’t really know much about. It’s mysterious and you learn little bits about her along the way.”
Do you think you would have stayed alive during the movie, and if so what would you have done differently?
“Oh god no, I would have died like the first 10 seconds, I would have been like ‘oh I’m curious.’ Unless I ran away, and then that’s what I would do. As soon as like, hey this is haunted or hey this has a weird story, okay bye. I’m not cool. I’m out.”
Emily Kruse, sophomore
