This spring break, a group of 18 students had the chance to travel abroad with Latin teacher Jason Lichte and art instructor Wendy Vertacnik.
The group spent 10 days in Italy taking in the culture and history of the region.
“I realized how tiring [travelling] can be, yet equally rewarding,” junior Alex Ewy said. “I also saw how gorgeous some of the monuments were, such as Pompeii. It was amazing to actually be in a temple that was older than the United States itself.
Along with seeing Pompeii, the group visited the island of Capri, Assisi, Florence, the Uffizi galleries, and Rome. In Rome the students saw iconic monuments such as the Trevi Fountain, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Forum.
Additionally, the recent Pope selection impacted the trip.
“We saw more dignitaries than usual, and the Pope came up in conversation much more often than usual,” Lichte said. “Everyone wanted to know what we thought of Pope Francis.”
Senior Sarah Sutterfield went along for the adventure and shared some of her photos from the trip.
