HRVRD, an alternative/experimental rock band from Charlotte, North Carolina, does not have the renown I feel they should have. The second I heard one of their songs pop up on my Pandora, I was hooked. HRVRD released their debut album The Inevitable and I on Enjoy The Ride Records back in December of 2009.
The album opens up with “On With Disease”, an upbeat feel-good song to prepare the listener for HRVRD’s unique sound. In “On With Disease” HRVRD shows off a little of everything they are best at. Melodic sweet sounding guitar lines, fantastic use of the bass guitar, powerful drum beats, and unforgettable vocal melodies make up each and every track on The Inevitable and I.
The second track on the album, “French Girls”, takes a break from the fast tempo of “On With Disease” to give the music a relaxed feeling. Tracks like “An End Weight”, “The Earth”, and “What We Had” mimic the relaxed feeling of “French Girls.” While other songs such as “Deliverance”, “Hands to Hesitate”, and “Ghost” pick up the faster, powerful qualities of “On With Disease” while putting a new twist on every new song. The Inevitable and I is one of the best albums I have ever heard.
Often albums will have a song or two that ruin the flow when listening to the album all the way through, The Inevitable and I is definitely not one of those albums. Every song on the album keeps the listener interested. I would seriously recommend at least giving a listen to a couple tracks off of this album, if not picking up the full album. As a musically inclined person, I’d give this album a 10 out of 10 hands down.
