Junior twins Ginny and Sidra Besson have played sports together their entire lives, but they began their high school sports careers when they joined the track and field team in their sophomore year.
It wasn’t until junior year that they would find their true calling: soccer.
“We haven’t done soccer the past couple years,” Ginny Besson said. “We wanted to try something new this year.”
The pair made it onto the varsity team despite their lack of experience, and many players, as well as team manager and senior Provi Fowler, believe they played well together.
“They are just a very, very steady duo. They work really, really well together, and you can tell that they have the utmost trust in each other, which sets that bar and level of trust in the rest of us,” Fowler said. “And they kind of just set an example about how we want to treat each other, because they’re just such good friends.”
The Besson twins had similar skills, allowing them to work together and challenge each other.
“The support I get from her and also the competition I can have with her can be mostly fun,” Sidra Besson said.
The twins plan to continue playing soccer during their senior year. The girls team ended with a record of 5-10, a major improvement from last year’s record of 1-12. Fowler attributes some of the credit to the twins.
“We had a lot of struggles just with teamwork and having them on the team really made a very, very large positive impact on how well we played,” Fowler said. “Being able to act as a team and play as a team, and just watching them trust one another is always a fun thing to watch.”
