Prom is a night full of dresses, suits, dancing and celebrating with your senior class. This year, prom falls on Saturday, May 7 at the Kansas Union.

“I think it’s a tradition,” senior Allie Ramos said. “It’s a big thing about high school. I think if you don’t go you’re missing out on a lot.”

Ramos was asked to prom this year over the popular app, Snapchat. Asking over social media instead of in person may relieve some of the pressure and stress that comes along with promposals.

“I asked over Snapchat,” Ramos said. “They go to a different school.”

However there are some students who still prefer asking in person with a poster or with other creative ideas that will impress the person they’re asking.

“I asked on a poster that said ‘I’d be Lion [lying] if I said I didn’t want to take you to Prom,’” senior Diego Gee said.

The official theme for this year’s is Hollywood. Although some had different ideas for the theme.

“I would say a ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ theme,” senior Braxton Olson said. “Because we’re lions.”

The excitement for prom is growing as the day approaches. Plans are being finalized and last minute dates are coming together.

“Well we’re getting a limo so I think that’ll be fun,” Ramos said. “I don’t know, I’m not looking forward to the dance part as much.”
