Construction companies crowding the main entrance and a parking lot in shambles are just a couple of things students and staff have had to deal with during these long months of construction.

The construction on the parking lot, cafeteria and the Black Box theater has taken much longer than expected. Now, plans are expected to be done this coming week. The current scheduled time for all the construction to end is Monday, Mar. 21, assistant principal Mike Norris said.

Construction was delayed at the start of last summer due to changes in the budget.

When the bond for the construction was created a few years ago, there was no estimation in the change in the economy since then. Workers had to change plans to make sure all the construction could be finished, which took time and delayed when they broke ground.

The original end date was around September of last year.

“Believe it or not—and it’s hard to see—but we are on the downhill slide,” Norris said.

The construction began after the last school year and has gone on until now, almost a year later. Students and staff can’t wait for the day everything is reopened.

“I think the construction is a good idea,” freshman Carson Katzfey said. “I just wish that it would get done sooner so people weren’t confused about the entrances.”

Due to the construction, the front entrance is off limits and the door by student services is used as the main entrance, which leads to confusion for visitors.

Asphalt plants, which supply material for the parking lot, only open at certain times in the year, causing the construction to delay even more.

“We were kind of holding because they only open up asphalt plants during certain times of the year,” Norris said. “But we’ve discovered that due to this nice weather we’re having, they just opened.”

Students are looking forward to all the projects coming to an end, probably in the next week.

“I can’t wait until we can start using the main entrance again and don’t have to walk everywhere,” Katzfey said.
