Hospitalized student still out of school
March 3, 2016
On Jan. 3, sophomore Travis Barfield suffered from a stroke and has been in a coma ever since.
He is currently staying at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Since the last update, a bowling fundraiser was held for Barfield with the help of others. T-Shirts are continuing to be sold with the phrase “Travis Strong” on them.
“There has been a bowling one [fundraiser], the GoFundMe, the t-shirt sale, and me and my friend Destiny are making a bake sale,” sophomore Alaina Barnes, a close friend of Barfield’s said.
The bowling fundraiser was held on Feb.13, at Royal Crest Lanes. Royal Crest Lanes has held many fundraisers for benefit groups or others in need of funding.
“It was just to help raise money for his medical bills,” Barnes said. “Because they are going to be very high.”
Over these two months, Travis’ brother Isiah Barfield, along with Barfield’s other friends have kept their heads held high.
“It’s affecting me, but I’m not letting it get to me,” Isiah said. “Just like everything else.”
