LHS and Free State ‘Can We Talk’ programs collaborate on vandalism forum

By Jacob Parnell

Lawrence High and Free State High School Can We Talk programs are coming together for a Community Forum to discuss recent vandalism.

The forum will take place 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in the auditorium of the Lawrence Public Library.

The meeting will reflect on the impacts of the vandalism of the Lawrence High football field, which included a racial slur written in shaving cream, as well as disparaging comments about both schools spray painted on a school bus. The event aims to stress the importance of the two schools collaborating rather than working separately.

“Because I believe that in our community there is a true separation, and just what 5 students did doesn’t make an entire school, so they shouldn’t be mistreated,” said social worker Lynisha Thomas, who also works with Can We Talk. “We’re going to talk about those events, so that way we can bring everyone back together.”

Everyone is welcome to attend. Space is limited.
