FreeRunning through the urban jungle

I felt the wind blow past me as I lifted myself over a concrete ledge and landed onto the grass several feet below. After wandering in the urban jungle for some time, I finally came to my training grounds, which were fully equipped with monkey bars and chained rings. I began warming up, stretching out all my limbs and tight muscles. I was ready for some danger that day. The first obstacle stood in front of me: a park table empty of people. My mind was set. I was going to conquer it.

I always wanted to be a ninja when I was a little kid. Being able to jump over high places and throw shurikens at people while hiding in the shadows, sounded like the greatest fun ever to a 5 year old. Over the summer I did more research and found out that there were real ninjas in the world; except they did not practice ninjutsu and throw shurikens at people. They were using the urban jungle as their massive playground to perform amazing stunts. It is called free running, and since I found out about it, I have wanted to be a free runner.

Of course, I am just an amateur (if that). I cannot do back flips or jump over roofs (yet), but with enough training and dedicated daily exercise, I will be an urban ninja in no time.

Even though I have been doing martial arts for some time now, free running has been a totally different experience for me ever since I first tried it. It can be dangerous, and it would be wise if aspiring runners took into consideration all the consequences before trying these movements.

No one wants to land too hard. Trust me, I learned that the hard way. One should be physically fit and completely warmed up before performing these movements. It might take some time before a runner is even ready to jump over the first ledge. And by the way, getting hurt is guaranteed. It is going to happen.
