Lions to face Firebirds this Friday

By Gary Schmidt

Lawrence High takes on Free State this Friday at Allen Fieldhouse. The girls game starts at 6:30 and the boys game starts at 8.

The Lady Lions head into the matchup a perfect 4-0 and currently are ranked number five in the state. They look to carry over from a season sweep of the Firebirds a year ago, and are led by junior E’lease Stafford and 6’3″ sophomore Chisom Ajekwu.

The team has won each of their four contests by double digits so far this year, and look to captilize on Free State, which has stumbled early on this season.

The boys team won third place in the Blue Valley Shootout last week, but in the process suffered their first loss of the season, to host and tournament champion, Blue Valley. They head into the contest victors of three of their first four matches, but have yet perform truly dominantly against any of their foes.

The team is led by senior Jackson Mallory and has received conisderable performances from sophomore Clarence King and senior Kobe Buffalomeat. Free State has similarly struggled in their games early on into the year, narrowly winning two out of three matches.

The matchups for both boys and girls teams appear to live well up to the prestigious standards of the historic Allen Fieldhouse.
