Jewelry Club funds run on low

The Jewelry Club is grant funded, but funds have ran dry.

Two years ago, club sponsor Deena Amont, wrote the grant herself and intended for the club to be self supportive. Although it was made to be self supportive, she knew that the club would rely on the grants funding in the future. Amont knew that at the time being, it would be a very postive thing for the club to be a self supported one.

“The club hasn’t been as affected as the classes have,” Amont said. “The classes have been dramatically affected.”

While the club itself is not so deeply affected, the classes most club members are enrolled in, like ceramics and jewelry art metals, have many less options when it comes to sources of money.

Students in those classes are required to pay a $25 fee. Unfortunately, due to district budget cuts, Amont is only able to access half of what each student pays to buy supplies.

“There is a lot less spending for those classes this year,” Amont said.

Members of the Jewelry Club, unlike most other clubs, are able to make money off of their extracurricular activity of choice.
