Track coach and history teacher Jack Hood won 6A track Coach of the Year on Jan. 7.

“It was a nice recognition of our boys efforts at state last year and the end result is I guess people think I am a great coach,” Hood said.

The boys team finished second at state last year. Hood is the head coach, but mainly focuses on throwing.

“He is a great guy that’s fun to be around,” senior thrower Reese Stellwagon said. “He has everyone’s respect and authority.”

Stellwagon also said Hood is best at demonstrating because he is still really good at throwing.

Hood said one of his biggest strengths as a coach is his experience because he’s been coaching a long time.

“He doesn’t quit and is a good role model,” Stellwagon said.

Hood said he just wants to give his kids a chance to be successful.

“He’s pretty inspirational and individually can tell you what you did wrong,” Stellagon said.
